Meet Bridgette LeBer, and Why She Is Riding for Home
Some people come to a race weekend to watch. Bridgette LeBer is coming to build.
This September at Circuit of the Americas, Bridgette debuts her Harley Super Hooligan build during the MotoAmerica race weekend, and she is doing it under the banner of Ride for Home. It is a machine she has put her own hands and her own hours into, rolling out in front of a crowd for the first time, at the last public MotoAmerica race the circuit will ever host. Her build has already drawn the attention of the moto press, with a feature in Track DNA ahead of the debut.
But Bridgette has not just lent her name to this weekend. She has opened doors with it.
The introduction that brought DYMAG to our table, and a set of race wheels to our auction bench, came from her. When we needed someone to carry Ride for Home into the moto community, she carried it, to riders, to builders, to people who had never heard of HomeAid Austin and now have tickets. That is a harder kind of generosity than writing a check, and it is the kind this weekend runs on.
Ask why a rider would spend her debut weekend on a housing charity, and the answer is in what the weekend pays for.
Ride for Home runs September 11 to 13 at Circuit of the Americas, three days built around the MotoAmerica race weekend, benefiting HomeAid Austin in partnership with Operation Finally Home, which provides mortgage-free homes for veterans and first responders. The weekend opens with an art and moto celebration at an Austin gallery, with live mural painting, custom-painted racing helmets headed for auction, music, and motorcycles on display. Guests spend the race days trackside in a climate-controlled VIP suite, meet MotoAmerica racers, and walk the grid before the King of the Baggers and Superbike races.
Every ticket goes to work. As the Charity of Choice for the Home Builders Association of Greater Austin, HomeAid Austin mobilizes the building industry’s donated labor and materials to construct and renovate housing for local service providers, often at a savings of roughly 50 percent. Since our founding we have completed 50 housing projects, served nearly 100,000 individuals, and secured more than $2.8 million in donated labor and materials. Each finished project goes to a partner who helps families find their path to independence.
That is what the roar is for this year. A family with a door to close behind them. A veteran with keys that are actually his.
